Sir,?Referring to Dr. Banerjee's letter in the October 1926 issue of the Gazette, I would refer him to Wall's book on the Poisonous Terrestrial Snakes of India and Ceylon, published by the Bombay Natural History Society, in which book the symptoms and treatment of snake poisoning are gone into very thoroughly. Dr. Banerjee's statement is quite correct that sloughing may be produced by the venom itself, but by the rubbing in of permanganate crystals the destruction of tissue is much greater and the production of sloughing not an uncertainty, while the wound resulting is much larger and takes long-
